obakki f/w

ph. Colin

It was an honor to attend the Obakki f/w show in Vancouver last week. It was a label that I had only seen briefly while Polyvore-ing but a semi-bored click on their lookbook in an email quickly turned into falling in love with leather pants both cropped and paneled, oversized asymmetrical knits, and a very perfect non-literal iteration of an aviator jacket. Owner Treana Peake zeros in on an aesthetic that is focused on undone basics and this collection saw an edgier side to the label emerge...soft silhouettes are offset by leather that is somehow simultaneously skintight and slouched in all the right places and the occasional sheer or textured body conscious piece. Nothing is too complicated or "done", the crowning glory of this idea being the draped take on the classic trench coat. As someone who will always prefer the messier, more wearable piece over anything remotely glitzy..I didn't really need much convincing. I literally cannot stop thinking about that black maxi dress with the leather criss-crossed bust..I got to fondle it in person the next day and the sheer layers are even more beautiful up close.

Thank you to Treana, Steph, and Jen for being such amazing hosts for our stay in Canada!
